Confessions of a Fitness Blogger

by Jenni in Fitness

Confessions of a fitness blogger
Confessions of a fitness blogger

It is funny how often I go out with friends and people bring up that I probably do not even eat fat or never miss a workout. The truth is, I do both those things. And really, I do a whole lot of other not-so-healthy things too. We all have our weaknesses and I have said before that carbs, Netflix, and cats are just a few of mine.

There was once a time when I thought that everyone who had a fitness blog or taught a fitness class was in peak health and athletic performance. Then, I read an article by a fitness blogger in which she drank beer. It was a jaw drop moment and man, was it nice. Yes, we all have those guilty pleasures. And yes, that includes fitness bloggers, fitness teachers, and chances are, it just might include you too ;) Do you do any of the things on my confessions list?

  1. I love carbs and eat them often. Really, it does not take much for me to sit down and eat and entire loaf of bread or down an entire basket of those bread rolls restaurants bring you to fill up on. Guilty as charged.
  2. Sometimes, I choose watching TV, sleeping, or doing nothing at all over working out. Gasp! Sometimes, the day is just too long and that wonderful workout I planned to review gets pushed to another time. Or, I do half the workout because half is better than none.
  3. I eat before bed.
  4. One of the main reason's I run on our gym's treadmill is because I can watch HGTV or E! while doing it.
  5. My husband eats more salads than I do. I think food runners think we are purposely tricking them when the hubs gets a salad and I order the veggie burger with onion rings. Onion rings should be a confession all on their own.
  6. Sometimes I fall over in yoga. Yes, this can happen to anyone. Those poses be hard!
  7. I often simultaneously envision my fitness instructor applauding me for my hard work and me hitting them for what they are doing to my body.
  8. I hate arm workouts. So much.
  9. When my scale reads a number that shocks me, I will often turn it off and move it to different areas of the bathroom. Because it must be the scale's position that is giving me a bad reading.
  10. I opt for the lowest weight option, always. This is not as much a confession as a belief that there is no reason for me to be lifting more than 5-10 pound weights. Sorry Orange Theory, it just makes no sense.
  11. Last week I had three Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks. Three!
  12. I will go to a workout class because I got a new pair of leggings or cute top.
  13. I will not go to a workout class because I have nothing to wear and my butt is still sore from yesterday's workout.
  14. I get cellulite.

Well, don't I feel better :) Do you have any of these fitness confessions in common with me? What are some of your fitness secrets?

TGIF Already!

Friday reading

Happy Friday!! Man, this week has been wonderful, but I am so excited to have the weekend upon us. The hubs and I are going to one of my favorite conferences ever for our business... You know, that thing we do so I can have a blog and volunteer ;) It will be super fun, super informative, and a reunion with a bunch of people that we may only see but once a year.

Then, Monday will be a beach day while we check out some facilities our camp might be using next summer.... On the beach, whoohoo!! Everything I have been doing this week has been preparing us for the weekend and it will be stellar! Next week will also be super fun on the blog since it will be the start of a new September series all about inspiration. Be sure to check back on Monday to see what that is all about.

For today though, I thought I would share some finds from the week that made me laugh or think and may make you do the same. Happy Friday and here's to a fantastic weekend!

You may be a bad yogi if... This made me laugh out loud at Starbucks as I drank my second PSL since they came out on Tuesday. Happy to hear I am not alone.

I want this on my walls so I can look at it and smile, daily.

Remembering Joan- an incredible woman, ground breaker, comedian, and fashionista. And here are some of her jokes guaranteed to make you laugh.

The best vacations on instagram. One of these places is where we spent our honeymoon. Swoon.

Something my core is in need of.

The only podcast you will ever need.

The phenomenon of brunch.

Happy September!

Confessions of a Workout-aholic

Confessions of a Workout-aholic
Confessions of a Workout-aholic

So, confession time. Although I love, love, love working out, sometimes it is a bit difficult to do. The past two weeks have been super difficult for me to workout during, and like most people, I keep finding excuses not to workout. Two weeks ago I accomplished my big workout goal for this year by getting back down to my happy weight (yea, I hit those holidays BIG TIME) and by accomplishing a few of those fitness bucket-listers like handstands and massive running. Now, I have taken it slow and boy has that been a mistake.

Of course, only running once to twice a week has made running more difficult, and yoga has not been done as much either. I write this because we all go through ups and downs. It is normal and thinking me or any other blogger out there is any different is silly. Sometimes, the internet can make everyone else's life seem glamorous and make us feel like the only ones battling anything.

For me, the past two weeks have been a major up-hill battle to workout. For others, the battle could be mental, a relationship, or anything else. This post is a bit late today because writing about short comings and hard times can be a bit difficult. But, it is ok to have them. Whatever hardships we are having, we can get through them.

For me, it is about not making excuses or procrastinating. It is about choosing to get new goals and strive for new things instead of being happy being stagnant. So, here is me getting back on that fitness post and preparing a few future posts for all those people who are also finding pretty darn good reasons to not hit the gym.

We are all part of the P+K family and we can all get through things together. For all those who, like me, have been slacking in a certain area of life, let's get to tackling it again! Here's to workouts, and self improvement, and all those other incredible things that we are trying to do.
