Last Week in Workouts: The Longest Run

by Jenni in Fitness

Running Sarasota Bay. Beautiful!
Running Sarasota Bay. Beautiful!

Last week, at 2:00 in the afternoon with a cloudless sky and 82 degree heat, I ran my longest run yet. It was hot, It was sunny, but it was also incredible. I keep doing the math and checking on my run keeper apps and Google maps to see that I actually ran that far, because my ody just does not feel like it usually does after a 3+ mile run.

Maybe it was the heat that helped lubricate my joints and loosen my muscles. Maybe it was the incredible views of running next to the bay and by the beach. Maybe it was the run-walk-run time that I was using, but something was definitely different from the prior week's 5-miler from hell, and I am so happy for that!!

Other than running this week, I did a wee bit of yoga and walked. That was it. I know, should have done more. But, with Easter, work, and just not wanting to, I just did not want to. So here is my workout sum-up and a hope that next week your will see a bit more yoga on my list!

Oh, and the picture above, that was taken while on the six-mile run. With that view, running really cannot be too bad!

Monday: 5-mile long run. This was definitely the hardest run yet. My pace slowed to an 11:33 average and my knees and ankles hurt like nothing else. There were also plenty of side stitches and lots of exhaustion when done. Yuck.

Tuesday: Rest day. Still in pain from Monday. But, have been using this, and it makes everything better!

Wednesday: 30-minute run using the 3/1 Run-Walk ration. Ended up doing a bit over 3 miles!

Thursday: This new yoga sequence from Candace!

Friday: 6-mile long run. This week I only fit in one 30-minute run since I was still catching up from last week. But, this run was incredible and my pace ended up being 11:16. Getting better!!

Saturday: Some nice walking :)

Sunday: I cooked a lot, but as far as a workout goes, that's about it.

Happy Monday! Do you have any fun workouts planned for this week?

This Week in Workouts: Reunion

by Jenni in Fitness

Trail running

Happy August! Since we will be starting our camping adventure in a few short hours it just made sense to do Sunday's post today. Because of this, there will be no post on Sunday, but we will continue with regular blog posts all next week!

This week has been fantastic! It all started off with the last camp session and one that we have never done before- a camp reunion. We have had past campers, previous counselors, and camper parents participating camping this past week. People have come from all areas of the US, Colombia, Sweden, Australia, and Russia for this week at camp! Considering that a few of these people are also Olympians, marathoners, ultra-marathoners, and tri-athaletes, this week has not been a walk in the park on the fitness front. It has been so inspiring to have people 20+ years older than me kicking my butt in every fitness category. What a great reminder that age is but a number!

Sunday: I led the spine stretching and strengthening yoga flow for some of our camp attendees! It will be on the blog soon!

Monday: My favorite 3.75-mile run ever!

Tuesday: The Squat-tastic workout followed by this Lesley Fightmaster's yoga flow for runners.

Wednesday: An isometric ab workout you will see on the blog soon :) Seriously, this is the stealth kind of workout where you feel fine till two days later and suddenly unable to laugh due to core pain.

Thursday: One last run to my favorite bagel and coffee shop. It ends up being about 4.7-miles and at the end we met up with family and friends for some coffee, sweet rolls, bagels, and a few good byes!

Friday: Hitting the road!!

Weekly Workout Goal

Almost all of next week will be filled with camping followed by one day at Disney World! Because of this, I am keeping my workout goals pretty relaxed. Some of the things I would love to do are do some camp-style yoga, hike some of the Appalachian Trail, see a waterfall, and run some of those incredible Disney running paths. If this week turns into a massive s'mores and sleep fest, I am happy with that as well.

Happy weekend! I hope yours is filled with a bit of R&R as well :)

The Big 2-5

by Jenni in Lifestyle

Happy Birthday Hollywood Studios- how they are planning to celebrate
Happy Birthday Hollywood Studios- how they are planning to celebrate

{via}

As of May 1st, Disney's Hollywood Studios will be a quarter of a century old. This is the second big birthday for Disney this year since Animal Kingdom turned 16 this year. To celebrate the big event, Disney is pulling out all the Hollywood stops and I soo want to go! All there is to do now is talk the hubs into a pre-Disney weekend Disney trip... Here's to hoping!

Hollywood Studios will start out the festivities at 10:00 am on May 1st with a rededication ceremony hosted by Vice President Dan Cockerell and Minnie and Mickey Mouse, of course. Later that day will be a motorcade with other Disney stars like Captain Jack Sparrow, followed by a dance party under the big hat and a special fireworks display.

Really, it does not seem like anything too special, but with all the other things they are doing in all the other parks, maybe they are just spent. The only hope is that the 25th birthday celebration will ring in a few updates and changes to Hollywood Studios. Re-vamping rides is great and needed, but adding a whole new area to Hollywood Studios would possibly be the best thing ever. Please, oh please let it be Cars Land!

Confessions of Someone a Bit Under-the-Weather

Happy March!! March is the welcoming of spring and one of my personal favorite months of the year. Loving March may have a bit to do with the fact that I came into existence in this lovely month 27-years ago (as of March 20th), or because it is one of the few months that Florida is both sunny and cool. Yea, it is all around great and this month will be a little bit extra special on the blog because of it. We are planning a guest post or two, some special giveaways, and a few other surprises along the way. It will be great!

To give me an extra special beginning to March, my body did the best thing ever and decided I should catch another cold/cough/whatever this thing is. Somehow, this past week I managed to get sick again. I am not sure if it is the massive pollen in the air that has weakened my defenses or it is because I just came off being sick, but this week has been filled with a doctor's visit, many hours in a bed, and way too much watching of The Only Way is Essex.  Yes, workouts did still happen, but no, they were not as intense or long or abundant as I would usually prefer. I did, however, learn a bit about myself this week. When I am sick, this is what I want to do all day, all the time:

  • Lay in bed and think how nice it would be to get out of bed, but never do because, meh.
  • Watch tons of online workouts. This is partially because a I want to be doing them, and also a bit because it makes me feel better about not working out.
  • Marathon a tv show, any tv show.
  • Read a book. Decide on said book. Then, begin to read it and decide I am way too dizzy for that foolishness.
  • Wait to take any medication until my husband brings it to me and, subsequently, puts me on a meds/vitamin schedule. I know, I am such a pill. But, it's partially his fault for starting this up in the first place, right?
  • Play with cats, take pictures of cats, snuggle cats, look up cat videos online. Pretty much, there has been a lot of cat stuff going on this week.
  • And finally, not write nearly as much as I should be. For this, I am sorry to all of you but completely promise we will get back on track soon!

Yes, that has been my week interspersed with a few super productive moments that make me feel not-so-bad for everything else. So, without further ado, my workouts.

Sunday: Hot Yoga class

Monday: One of the many bullet points above instead of a workout.

Tuesday: Kettlebell Mixer Workout x3 followed by this yoga flow by Adriane.

Wednesday: Rest day

Thursday: Kettlebell Mixer Workout x2 which I seriously love! Followed by this Tara Stiles yoga flow.

Friday: This Train Like and Angel Workout with Mary Helen Bowers

Saturday: Rest day
